Should I Clean My Own Airbnb? When to Do It Yourself and When to Book Backup Cover

Published · Updated

Should I clean my own Airbnb? Yes, if you live close, your bookings leave room for it, and you have a plan for the days you can't make it. That plan is the part most self-cleaning hosts skip. A changeover is the clean and reset between one guest leaving and the next arriving. I'm Tunde. I run Bloom Clean Services on my own from 427 Ashton Old Road, Manchester M11, covering Openshaw, Gorton, Levenshulme, Longsight, Fallowfield and Rusholme. If you want backup changeover cleaning for hosts and property managers, start with the enquiry form.

Should I clean my own Airbnb? When it works

It works when these are already true.

You also see the place after every stay, so wear and missing items show up before the next guest.

The 20 November Airbnb rule adds work to each changeover

For reservations booked on or after 20 November 2026, hosts are generally not allowed to ask guests to strip beds, take rubbish off-site, or wash and put away dishes. That date is the booking date, not the stay date. Exceptions are possible depending on listing type and local context. Guests can still be asked to put used dishes in the sink, gather used towels and sort rubbish into indoor bins. Airbnb's Help Centre and the Airbnb Resource Centre set this out. It is an Airbnb policy, not a UK law, and it does not apply to Booking.com or Vrbo. See Airbnb's new checkout rules for Manchester hosts. Each changeover now includes the beds, the washing up and the bins.

You don't have to choose all or nothing

People ask me, should I clean the Airbnb myself or hire a cleaner? You can do both: you take routine changeovers, and a cover cleaner for the Airbnb changeover takes holidays, illness, double check-out days and same-day turnovers. An Airbnb backup cleaner in Manchester only helps if the property is set up first.

  1. Introduce the cleaner to the property once, ideally with a paid first clean.
  2. Share one current checklist: linen, spares, supplies, bins and bin day, and locking up.
  3. Sort access: key safe or lock box code, parking, fob and alarm.
  4. Agree what done looks like, with completion photos of the beds, bathroom and kitchen.
  5. Agree who supplies the linen and the consumables.
  6. Give known cover dates early.

I'm one person, so cover depends on my diary. I can take one-off changeovers with as little as 2 hours' notice when the diary allows, and I reply within 2 hours, Monday to Saturday, 8am to 6pm, with a straight yes or no. If the diary is full, I say no.

Comparing the cost of doing it yourself with hiring help

List your own time: travel, cleaning, laundry, restocking and checks. List your own costs: products, laundry and transport. Then compare a quote for that same task list. A missed or late changeover has a cost as well. The next guest can arrive before the property is ready, and the rest of the day goes on putting that right. Compare like for like.

How I cover changeovers around M11

I do every clean myself. I am DBS-checked and public liability insured, and I bring Cif products. I can bring and wash linen, and that is included in the quote. I send completion photos on every property job. I reply within 2 hours, Monday to Saturday, 8am to 6pm. Sunday is limited and by arrangement.

If you are not happy with a changeover, report it straight away. I respond within an hour and re-clean free of charge. That hour is my reply time only. It is not an arrival time, and it is not the time the re-clean takes.

Short-let changeovers are quote only. The price depends on property size, condition, frequency, volume and turnaround requirements. See how short-let changeovers are priced. After a busy spell, book a deep clean between busy periods.

FAQs

Yes, if you live close, your bookings leave a realistic gap between check-out and check-in, and you have spare linen and a checklist. It stops working when changeovers clash with work, travel or illness, so line up a backup cleaner before you need one.

Call the backup cleaner you've already introduced to the property and send the postcode, check-out and check-in times, access details and your checklist. If you don't have one, ask a local changeover cleaner now. Short-notice availability is never guaranteed, so book known dates early.

Yes. Many hosts clean routine changeovers themselves and book a cleaner for holidays, illness or double check-out days. Agree the checklist, access, linen and completion photos in advance so a cover clean matches your own standard.

Send the postcode, the bedrooms, bathrooms and beds, the check-out and next check-in times, the access method, whether clean linen is on site, anything the last guest reported, and photos of how you like it left.

Yes, in Openshaw, Gorton, Levenshulme, Longsight, Fallowfield and Rusholme, subject to my diary, with as little as 2 hours' notice. I quote first.

Yes, I bring Cif products, and I can bring and wash linen too; that's included in the quote.
